PES Bright Futures Play Academy

I am very excited about teaching the Play Academy again this year.  I have had ten years of experience in early childhood teaching both kindergarten and grade one, as well as five years teaching the Play Academy.  I have a fabulous husband, Todd, who is also a teacher, and an amazing six year old boy who is always challenging me, teaching me, and inspiring me.   My favorite activities include hanging out with Todd and Seth, whether that be swimming, going to the playground, bike rides, building train sets, making puzzles, and of course snuggling and reading books.  I also enjoy reading, running, hiking and learning new things.

I look forward to continuing to apply what I have learned and am learning to create an environment for your child to learn and grow through a variety of play based activities, and to prepare your child for kindergarten. I believe that the first years spent at school are a very special time in a child’s life. They are a unique opportunity for a child to learn and discover about the extended world beyond his/her home and family in a safe but stimulating environment.  I will create a classroom that will feel welcoming and secure to your child, but also challenging.  It will invite them to play, for play is the natural medium through which the process of learning and development occurs and allows a child’s natural curiosity and creative potential to unfold.  The various learning areas within the classroom will be set up to draw children into uninhibited exploration, questioning and spontaneous expression. The classroom will be a small community, with all the social conventions and complexities that this entails. By participating in a variety of small and whole group activities your child will have the opportunity to learn and develop skills and attitudes that enhance successful social interactions. They will learn the inherent value of sharing and cooperation that will carry forward throughout their schooling experience.
